We've got some incredible Canadian Gourmet Foods at Bradshaws in our Kitchen Detail Department... Here are some fantastic brands for you to explore when you're mixing cocktails, serving appetizers, barbecuing and giving unique and purposeful Canadian gifts!
Everyone knows, Canada's national cocktail is the Bloody Caesar. Created by bartender Walter Chell in 1969 in Calgary, Alberta, it typically contains vodka, "Clamato" juice (a combination of clam broth and tomato juice) Worcestershire sauce and is served with a celery salt rim on the rocks, garnished with a crispy celery stick. Until now, we have been beholden to Mott's Clamato juice, but we are SO happy to announce that we are now stocking the very first premium CANADIAN all-natural craft Caesar mix! Walter Caesar (named after Walter Chell) is made in Vancouver, British Colombia in small batches using vine-ripened tomatoes, selected spices, freshly grated horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce and clam juice from the North Atlantic. Now I don't know about you, but I have been getting pretty sick of showing up to parties with a bottle of wine. This is my new go-to when I'm heading over to friends for drinks. Not only is it easy to whip up a pretty impressive looking cocktail, but it is absolutely delicious and it fast tracks you to becoming the life of the party! We'll be sampling this product on Savour Stratford weekend, so come by and meet Joshua and he'll tell you ALL about this great line.
If you haven't heard of Dillon's Distillery located in Beamsville in the Niagara Region, then you will want to read up on them. Not only is this an exciting Canadian company, but they are the Spirits Sponsor of this years Savour Stratford weekend. Father Peter Dillon - a renowned Scientist/Herb and Botanicals Expert, and his son Geoff who graduated with honours in Biology and Economics is at the helm of the company with his key role in distilling.Together, Dillon's Distillery creates gin and vodka using 100% Niagara grapes as the base. Their gin is infused with botanicals grown right on their property. And they use fresh fruits and local grains and turn them into spirits such as white whiskey and Canadian Rye which is aged in Canadian oak barrels, and my new faves, Rose Gin Liqueur and Pear Eau-de-Vie. The key to their approach is SMALL batch distilling which gives them the opportunity to work in tune with fresh local products as they come into season. They are using traditional methods while incorporating modern techniques to create something truly memorable and unique. We LOVE Canadian companies like this that are leaders and innovators in their industry.
Dillon's also has a complete range of bitters and we are proud to be carrying this part of their line both at Bradshaws and on our online shop. If you've enjoyed a complex cocktail lately at any bar or restaurant, then I'm sure you've noticed the huge trend of using bitters. According to many bartenders and mixologists, bitters are an essential element to any complex and delicious cocktail. And bitters are not only used for cocktailing… You can bake with them, use them in marinades and dressings, and have a little fun with them. Get LOTS of great ideas here.

We are lucky to have Moss Berry Farms so close by. Originally a pick-your-own fruit and vegetable farm, the focus of Moss Farms has changed with the passing of the generations and is now owned and operated by Ann Marie Moss and her husband Al. Moss Farms has become a leading supplier of small-batch, hand-crafted preserves and chutneys. Made using only the finest and freshest ingredients and careful preparation, you will definitely love the concentrated and robust flavour in these preserves. Being a family-run husband/wife operation at Bradshaws, we truly respect others who are doing the same, and quite literally, a little bit of love goes into every jar! My favourite pick is Moss Cranberry Mango Chutney. Thanksgiving dinner would NOT be complete without it! One of our staff - a Moss family member - will be sampling an assortment of Moss Jams at our Savour Stratford sampling in our store. Also available in our Canadian section on our online shop!
Hey Garlic Lovers… Have you hear of The Garlic Box in Hensall, Ontario? The Garlic Box was started in 1998 by Jackie Rowe, who is someone I would definitely refer to as small but mighty! Jackie has created a powerhouse of a company revolving around garlic as the key ingredient. In 2012, Jackie was nominated for the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards for recognition in the Trailblazer category! The Garlic Box will process more than 40,000 pounds of fresh garlic this year alone! Her award winning products will quickly become a staple in your kitchen. I simply cannot be without her Garlic Steak Splash, which I confess, I've never even used on steak! I use it in sauces, marinades and as a bit of kick to my bloody Caesars! There are so many incredible products in this line… Pickled Garlic Scapes, Garlic Peach Salsa, Garlic Cranberry Horseradish Condiment, Garlic and Mango Dressing, Apple Cider and Garlic Vinaigrette… I could go on. You'll just have to come in and sample some of her goodness. Get lots of incredible recipes on Jackie's site here!
